The AAAS Center for Scientific Responsibility and Justice (SRJ) fosters collaboration among scientists and judges to enhance their understanding and application of scientific principles and evidence within the legal system. From AI systems making high-stakes decisions to water contamination to scarcity disputes, judges are hearing cases every day that demand engagement with rapidly evolving science, often without precedent.
To advance its mission, SRJ works to:
- Strengthen judicial access to—and application of—scientific information;
- Provide training and opportunities for scientists to engage with courts; and
- Assess emerging legal issues in science and technology.
