The renowned Russian poet and songwriter Mikhail Tanich has died of cancer today, aged 85, in Moscow.
Mikhail Isaevich Tanich was born in 1923 in Taganrog. He was at front during the Great Patriotic War. In 1950 Tanich started writing verses and publishing them in Moscow editions. His first song, namely Textile Town carried the poet forward.
The poet created a number of songs that made nationwide hits for several generations of Russians, among them Cherny Kot (Black Cat), Idet soldat po gorodu (A Soldier is Walking in Town), Komarovo, and others.
The main project of Mikhail Tanich from 1990 was Lesopoval band: the poet has written about a hundred lyrics for this ensemble.
The poet will be laid to rest at Vagankovskoe Cemetery on April 19.
