The Civilian to Active Shooter Events Train-the-Trainer (CRASE) course is a direct delivery, train-the-trainer course designed to provide first responders and other professionals with a model response program they can deliver to civilians within their communities.

Active Attack Incident Response and Command

The ALERRT Center at Texas State University has developed this introductory eLearning course to meet the requirements of the Uvalde Strong Act (HB 33).

This course provides a foundational understanding of the concepts and principles necessary to effectively respond to and mitigate an active attack incident, with the goal of saving as many lives as possible.

Train-the-Trainer Recertification

Recertification courses help certified instructors maintain current credentials by reviewing updated tactics, research, and best practices in active attack response.

These online courses are designed for eligible instructors who need to renew their certification within the required training cycle. By completing recertification, instructors ensure they continue delivering the most accurate and effective training to their communities.

ALERRT Incident Response and Command

The AIRC course provides a foundational understanding of the concepts and principles necessary to effectively respond to and mitigate an active attack incident, with the goal of saving as many lives as possible.

This course satisfies the TCOLE requirement for course #3608 and will count for 2 hours of TCOLE training. This course meets the HB33 mandate and does count toward the SB1852 mandate. TCOLE credit takes up to 30 days to report from the completion date.

Active Attack Incident Management

The AAIM course will introduce and explain various command phases, zones of operation, command elements, and terminology, as well as interagency coordination, communication, transfers of command, Incident Command Posts, Area Command, and EOC operations.

This course satisfies the TCOLE requirements for course #3366 and will count as 4 hours of TCOLE training. This course does count toward the SB1852 mandate. TCOLE credit takes up to 30 days to report from the completion date.

Fire as a Weapon Integrated Response

Fire as a weapon (FAAW) is the use of fire, smoke, or flammable materials normally used with other attack vectors that confound incident response and which requires an integrated response for incident stabilization.

This course satisfies the TCOLE requirements for course #3356 and will count as 4 hours of TCOLE training. This course does count toward the SB1852 mandate. TCOLE credit takes up to 30 days to report from the completion date.

Active Attack Event Response Leadership

The AAEL course is to provide leaders in first response and emergency management agencies with strategic leadership and integrate response strategies that will prepare them to not only “stop the killing” but to also “stop the dying” in active attack events.

This course satisfies the TCOLE requirements for course #667371 and will count as 4 hours of TCOLE training. This course does count toward the SB1852 mandate. TCOLE credit takes up to 30 days to report from the completion date.

Active Attack Emergency Communications

The AAEC course was designed in conjunction with TEEX (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service) to provide telecommunicators, first responders, and other professionals with information on effective dispatching to better prepare them to save lives and reduce chaos in an active attack event.

This course satisfies the TCOLE requirements for course #78052 and will count as 3 hours of TCOLE training. This course does count toward the SB1852 mandate. TCOLE credit takes up to 30 days to report from the completion date.

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events Instructor

The CRASE course was designed to provide first responders and other professionals with a model response program they can deliver to civilians within their communities.

This course does satisfy the TCOLE requirements for course #3364 and will count as 4 hours of TCOLE training. This course, however, does not count toward the SB1852 mandate. TCOLE credit takes up to 30 days to report from the completion date.

Introduction to Active Shooter Response Tactics for Law Enforcement and First Responders

This course is designed to introduce ALERRT's researched based concepts and principles for Law Enforcement when responding to an active attack event. This course is intended for Law Enforcement and First Responders.

This course does not have a TCOLE number assigned and does not satisfy the SB1852 mandate.

Level 1 Train-the-Trainer Instructor Recertificaiton

This class is required for instructors to be updated and certified to continue instructing the Level 1 course to their agencies and neighboring agencies. Mandate for all Level 1 Instructors (CIs and Adjuncts). This course is mandatory for all certified instructors to take every three years. This course satisfies the TCOLE requirements for course #3355 and will count as 8 hours of TCOLE training. This course does count toward the SB1852 mandate.

The recertification course must be completed within 45 days of payment. The online course can be stopped and resumed several times over this 45-day period. However, once a student begins the course, it must be completed fully to receive the final grade.

Active Attack Integrated response Train-the-Trainer Instructor Recertification

This class is required for all instructors to be updated and certified to continue instructing the AAIR course to their and neighboring agencies. This recertification course is mandatory for all AAIR Instructors (CIs and Adjuncts) and must be taken every 3 years to stay current. Additional methods to recertify are to attend or instruct a current version of the AAIR in-person course and report it on the ALERRT.org site. This course satisfies the TCOLE requirements for course #3609 and will count as 8 hours of TCOLE training. This course does count toward the SB1852 mandate.

The recertification course must be completed within 45 days of payment. The online course can be stopped and resumed several times over this 45-day period. However, once a student begins the course, it must be completed fully to receive the final grade.

How long does it take for my TCOLE credits to show up on my account?


Hours will be reported within the 30-day reporting window from the course end date.


Online courses are entered within 30 days of completion, but not necessarily in the order in which they are completed. Two ALERRT staff members handle reporting through a queue system, so sometimes hours may appear out of order.
