Jürgen Dieter Paul Schmude (9 June 1936 – 3 February 2025) was a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
Schmude was born in Insterburg, Gau East Prussia, Germany, (now Chernyakhovsk, Russia). He was a member of the German Parliament, the Bundestag, from 1969 to 1994. From 1978 to 1981, he was Federal German Minister for Education and Science and later Federal Minister of Justice from 1981 to 1982, then briefly Minister of the Interior in 1982. He was married and had two children. Schmude died on 3 February 2025, at the age of 88.[1]
