Madagascar is a 2005 American computer-animated movie made by DreamWorks. The story is about a group of animals from the zoo in Central Park, New York City.

The main characters are Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) and Gloria the Hippotamus (Jada Pinkett Smith). With the penguins Skipper (Tom McGrath), Private (Christopher Knights), Kowalski (Chris Miller) and Rico (John DiMaggio) also living in the zoo, they end up in Madagascar with King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen), Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer) and Mort (Andy Richter). The movie has two sequels: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, as well as a Christmas special, a spinoff series, and the movie of the same name.

It was released on May 27, 2005.

Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippopotamus become best friends in the movie.
