Opie and Anthony, the shock jocks who made headlines three years ago with an on-air April Fool's joke about Mayor Thomas M. Menino, returned to the Boston airwaves yesterday on WBCN-FM (104.1). Their afternoon show, which originates in New York City, is syndicated nationally, and Boston is the latest addition.
The duo - who were fired from WAAF-FM (107.3) in 1998 after falsely declaring the mayor dead - wasted no time in declaring their victory and the coming downfall of competitor WAAF. After broadcasting news clips of the media coverage that followed their prank, the DJs began their show laughing, saying, "Where were we before we were rudely interrupted? . . .
