I understand your frustration, but I can't lift the freeze because any change to distutils potentially break third party projects out there. We suffered from that in the past and we decided to proceed on a new version and freeze this one.

Having this compiler released on its own project is absolutely possible and acceptable and can be done in a way that works with distutils1 and distutils2, and I'd happily integrate it to distutils2 today once we manage to review it.
