That was an old version of the patch. In the branch http://hg.python.org/sandbox/sbt#spawn _posixsubprocess is used instead of fork+exec, and all unnecessary fds are closed. That was an old version of the patch.

In the branch

_posixsubprocess is used instead of fork+exec, and all unnecessary fds are closed.  See
