FYI I posted a patch at Issue 22852 to retain the empty netloc “//” when appropriate. But even if there is interest in that patch, I guess it can still only be applied to the next version of Python (3.5 or whatever), being a new feature. Maybe you could suggest some wording or a patch to the documentation that could be applied to bugfix releases as well. |
