2026-06-16 NEWBSD Release: FreeBSD 15.1

FreeBSD
Rate this project (8.7)

Colin Percival has announced the release of FreeBSD 15.1, the second release in FreeBSD's latest stable branch: "The FreeBSD Release Engineering team is pleased to announce the availability of FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE. This is the second release of the stable/15 branch. Some of the highlights: the iwlwifi(4) and other LinuxKPI based wireless networking drivers are now based on Linux 7.0; FreeBSD cloud images using packaged base systems now include pkg(8), and support automatic base system package updates on first boot; a new kern.sched.name tunable allows the kernel scheduler to be selected at boot time; significant progress has been made towards complete support for the C23 version of the C programming language; Unicode support has been updated to Unicode 17.0.0 and CLDR 48, adding 4,803 characters. The FreeBSD Project dedicates the FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE to the memory of Peter G. Neumann, a longtime collaborator with FreeBSD developers on capability-based security...." 2026-06-15 NEWDistribution Release: EasyOS 7.4

EasyOS
Rate this project (8.8)

Barry Kauler has announced the release of EasyOS 7.4. The new version focuses on polishing classic software options, providing X11 support, fixes for the ROX-filer file manager, and improving video playback by swapping out Celluloid for SMPlayer. "Version 7.4 is a 'milestone' release, consolidating EasyOS as supporting 'legacy' software architectures, including Xlibre X.Org server and GTK2-ng. We are committing to ongoing support, updating and enhancing, of GTK2-based applications, including ROX-Filer, that has undergone many fixes and improvements, such as memory-leak fix, back-forward history buttons, and video thumbnails. We continue to refine and improve the inbuilt package collection, as usual including the 'kitchen sink'. For example, we have replaced the Celluloid media player, which has been troublesome, with SMPlayer and VIDplay (a chromium-based video player). Other refinements include replacing StreamTuner2 Internet radio player with YRadio. Having the "kitchen sink" builtin means that we want to have applications builtin to satisfy 99% of users. One niche area is a simple database application; this gap is now filled by Symphytum. Lots of utility applications have been fixed and improved, including EasyCast screen recorder, DropboxGUI dropbox.com file manager, improved optical drive handling and fixes for pBurn CD/DVD burner app. The list goes on." Aditional information can be found in the release announcement and in the release notes. Download: easy-7.4-amd64.img (1,093MB, MD5, pkglist).

2026-06-13 NEWDevelopment Release: AnduinOS 2.0.0 Beta 2

AnduinOS
Rate this project (8.8)

The AnduinOS team has announced the availability of a development snapshot of AnduinOS 2.0.0, the upcoming major update of the project's Ubuntu-based Linux distribution featuring a highly customised GNOME desktop. This version is derived from the long-term supported Ubuntu 26.04: "Today, AIURSOFT Limited is thrilled to announce the beta release of AnduinOS 2.0.0. This is not just another system update; it is a fundamental, ground-up architectural rewrite of our entire operating system. Listening closely to community feedback regarding maintainability and package management, we have completely reimagined how AnduinOS is built, distributed and maintained. We are officially leaving the era of 'remastering' behind and stepping into the era of true distro engineering. AnduinOS is now assembled within a pristine, sandboxed debootstrap and chroot pipeline. At the heart of this revolution is the introduction of aosproj and apkg - our proprietary, XML-based declarative domain-specific language and automated compilation toolchain. Instead of hacking the system post-install, the AnduinOS core is now meticulously modularized into 56 standalone native .deb packages." Read the rest of the release announcement for further information and upgrade instructions. The project provides separate ISO images localised into each of the 22 supported languages; here is a quick link to download the "en_US" variant: AnduinOS-2.0.0~beta2-2606131009.iso (2,501MB, SHA256, torrent, pkglist).

Alpine Linux
Rate this project (9.0)

The Alpine Linux development team has announced the release of Alpine Linux 3.24.0, a significant update of the project's independently-developed, general purpose Linux distribution designed primarily for power users: "We are pleased to announce the release of Alpine Linux 3.24.0, the first release in the 3.24 stable series. Highlights: GRUB 2.14, LLVM 22, Rust 1.96, GNOME 50, Go 1.26, KDE Plasma 6.6, Qt 6.11, Sway 1.12, nginx 1.30. Significant changes: py3-setuptools has been upgraded to 82.0.0, which removed the deprecated pkg_resources module, projects that still depend on it will no longer work and should migrate to its successors; the qemu-binfmt service from qemu-openrc is deprecated in favor of binfmt.d config files from user mode qemu packages combined with the binfmt service; the installer (setup-alpine) now supports the Limine boot loader and has gained IPv6 support; the COSMIC desktop environment by System76 is now available in the community repository; GTK+ 3.0 has been moved from main to the community repository; additional GTK+ 2 and Qt 5 packages have been removed as part of ongoing deprecation efforts, libsoup 2 has also been removed." 2026-06-09 NEWDistribution Release: SysLinuxOS 13.2

SysLinuxOS
Rate this project (9.0)

Franco Conidi has announced the release of SysLinuxOS 13.2, an updated build of the project's Debian-based distribution made primarily for system integrators and network administrators. The new version uses the Btrfs filesystem on new installation and integrates the Snapper utility for managing snapshots of Btrfs subvolumes. "SysLinuxOS 13.2 is a substantial revision of how the system handles storage, backups, recovery and boot. The release introduces Btrfs as the default filesystem and builds an integrated snapshot, rollback and backup layer on top of it. All of these capabilities are preconfigured and active from the first boot, with no additional setup required. New installations use Btrfs with the standard @ subvolume for root and @home for home. Calamares performs the partitioning and subvolume layout automatically during guided installation, with no manual configuration. Btrfs enables capabilities that are not available on ext4 - instant snapshots, full system rollback, and native incremental backups. In SysLinuxOS 13.2 these features are integrated and preconfigured out of the box. As soon as SysLinuxOS 13.2 is installed, Snapper is configured and active. The following operations are automatic: a baseline snapshot is created at the end of the installation, providing a clean reference point; each apt install, upgrade or remove operation creates a pre/post snapshot pair...." Download (pkglist, username: admin, password: root): SysLinuxOS-13.2-MATE.iso (4,937MB, SHA256), SysLinuxOS-13.2-GNOME.iso (4,771MB, SHA256).
