This is blocking the 2.8.0 update, when this is merged the backport label should be re-applied on #149073.

@Yhg1s we are seeing real effects of that blocker already (#149017 (comment)) and it will be the same for 2.8.1 after 2.8.0 shortly. Any chance this could be merged? Thank you!
